A systematic review of effects of cognitive rehabilitation therapy for community dwelling adults with early dementia or mild cognitive impairment

Abstract
|

|
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of cognitive rehabilitation therapy for community dwelling adults with early dementia or mild cognitive impairment.
Methods: We searched the databases such a National Digital Science Library (NSDL), RISS, Korean Studies Information Service System(KISS), Pubmed and Embase for the time period between January 2007 and December 2016. Reference lists of the included articles were also manually searched.
Result: Most of interventions were composed of more than 2 kinds of activities and participants received cognitive rehabilitation therapy showed significant change of cognitive function in 9 studies out of 12 studies we reviewed. The most common intervention provider was occupational therapist and place was dementia support center. MMSE was the most common measurement for assessment of cognitive function.
Conclusion: It was confirm that cognitive rehabilitation therapy for communitydwelling adults with early dementia or mild cognitive impairment had effect on improvement of cognitive function and non-cognitive function. It is needed to establish the system for providing effective interventions to community dwelling adults with early dementia or mild cognitive impairment.
